Important information from Deborah – “That Wills Lady”

Thank you for getting in touch.  I will be happy to assist you.

Here is a breakdown of my fees for June 2026 and available dates and times for appointments.

All appointments are via Zoom or FaceTime.

My Fees

  • Asset Protection Wills for Married Couples who are Joint Owners of Property. I will be able to advise which of the following would best suit your circumstances.

Please note that the fee quoted is for both of your Wills and includes a Zoom meeting of up to one hour, which is when I will take your instructions and advise.

Asset Protection Wills (Gold) - £400 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

These are the most common type of Asset Protection Wills.  On first death the half share of the property and possibly also the cash estate of the first to pass away are ring-fenced in a life interest trust (alternatively the cash can go to the survivor – so it’s up to you).  On second death Trust is wound up and goes directly to your chosen beneficiaries.  The estate of the second to pass away also goes to the chosen beneficiaries.

Asset Protection Wills (Gold Plus)- £600 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

As above but this time on second death, the Trust Fund and survivor’s estate passes to a Discretionary Trust rather than to individuals directly.  This is a good option where your beneficiary or beneficiaries are in an unhappy marriage, disabled, not financially astute, have an addiction, on means tested benefits or have a large enough estate of their own and the money could be better used providing for their children.  It’s also a popular choice for clients with young children or those clients who just want to ensure maximum asset protection and/or flexibility.  By choosing the Asset Protection Gold Plus you are maximising the Asset Protection element of the Wills, ensuring that the estate is protected for years to come.  The Trustees have the ongoing responsibility to manage the Trust for your beneficiaries, so it is important that you choose your Trustees wisely.  Along with your Wills you will have a Letter of Wishes to your Discretionary Trustees, and I will draft this for you.

Asset Protection Wills (Platinum) - £700 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

These Wills are advisable for clients with larger estates (either over the IHT threshold which is currently £1million or approaching that threshold) and a property worth at least £600K.  Most of the Will is identical to the APW Gold but we include an important addition to benefit from a fantastic discount on the taxable value of the property.  The addition is a legacy to a Nil Rate Band Discretionary Trust on first death. Along with your Wills you will each have a Letter of Wishes to your Nil Rate Band Discretionary Trustees, and I will draft this for you.

Asset Protection Wills (Platinum Plus) - £900 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

As above on first death but on second death the Trust Fund and survivor’s estate passes to a Discretionary Trust rather than to individuals directly.

Asset Protection (Diamond) - £900 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

These Wills are for couples with large estates (say in excess of £1 million each spouse, £2 million total).  By using a Discretionary Trust for the whole of the first estate, we avoid aggregation of the estates which gives each estate the best shot at claiming all Residence Nil Rate Band allowances (worth a total of £350K).  Along with your Wills you will each have a Letter of Wishes to your Discretionary Trustees, and I will draft this for you

  • Asset Protection Wills for UNMARRIED Couples who are Joint Owners of Property ) - £700 plus VAT (of which £150 plus VAT is payable after our meeting)

Other Costs

The costs above include the severance of the property ownership to Tenants in Common of ONE PROPERTY.  For any additional property needing a severance then my fee is £50 plus VAT per property, £20 plus VAT of that fee is for carrying out the search and reporting back to you and £30 plus VAT covers the severance documents if indeed they are necessary.

Land Registry entry per property of £7.

When and how will my costs be paid?

As soon as I have drafted your documents they will be sent to you by email with my final invoice.  My invoice must be settled within seven days.  I will not be able to remove the “draft” watermark from your documents until your invoice is settled in full.

What do these costs not include?

My costs do not include any printing or postage.  It is expected that you will print your documents out yourselves.  If you would rather I print out your Wills and pop them in the post for you then I will charge an additional £60 (including VAT) which includes the cost of postage as well as preparing and printing.

  • Other Wills

Fee for a single Will starts at £150 plus VAT.

Should you require numerous legacies or if there's another reason why more drafting is required then I would increase my fee to around £200-£250 plus VAT and £300-£350 plus VAT if you require a Will Trust.

Fee for Standard Mirror Wills for a couple start at £300 plus VAT
